RESIDENT PROGRAMS
Finding new ways to inspire our residents
At Goodwin Living, we believe in more than just providing a place to live. We are committed to ensuring that every resident feels supported, engaged and valued. Since welcoming our first resident in 1967, we have never asked anyone to leave due to financial hardship beyond their control. That promise is made possible by our Resident Support Fund, which is fully funded by generous donors and supports programs that bring joy, connection and enrichment to daily life.

The power of music, the joy of connection
Music has the power to bring people together, spark memories and create joy. That’s why we have developed three programs to do just that for our residents.

Melody Makers
Melody Makers, offered at Goodwin House Alexandria and Goodwin House Bailey’s Crossroads, fosters community and engagement through vocal exercises, movement and interactive musical activities for those with moderate cognitive change.

Sentimental Journey Singers
Sentimental Journey Singers at The View Alexandria provides a warm, engaging space for residents with early to mid-stage cognitive change and their care partners to sing familiar songs and connect through movement and music.

Crdl
Crdl (pronounced “Cradle”) is an innovative therapy that turns touch into music. Designed to engage individuals with dementia and other cognitive challenges, this groundbreaking instrument transforms simple contact into sound.
ENCORE LEARNING
Never stop learning, never stop growing
Curiosity and learning don’t stop with age. Through the Goodwin Living Foundation, residents receive free memberships to Encore Learning, a nonprofit that offers college-level noncredit courses, specialty clubs, special events and social activities. Whether it’s exploring new ideas or making new friends, this program keeps minds active and engaged.

HORTICULTURE THERAPY
Healing through nature
Gardening is a chance to connect with nature, find peace and nurture something with your own hands. Our horticulture therapy provides residents with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia a chance to engage in evidence-based gardening activities. With indoor garden boxes and guided sessions, residents experience the joy and calm that comes from working with nature.

ANIMAL THERAPY
Companionship that warms the heart
Animals bring warmth, joy and a sense of calm. Goodwin House Alexandria and Goodwin House Bailey’s Crossroads have monthly visits with a variety of farm animals, providing companionship and engagement for residents across all levels of living.
For those living with dementia, anxiety or other challenges, the Therapeutic Equine Encounter Program at Cloverleaf Equine Services Center offers a unique opportunity to connect with horses, practice self-awareness and experience moments of peace and joy.

RESIDENT Initiatives
Your ideas, your impact
Great ideas start with those who call Goodwin Living home. Many of our most meaningful programs have come from residents who saw an opportunity to create something special. Whether it’s a new club, a wellness initiative or a way to bring people together, we want to hear from you. If you have an idea for a program that could enrich the lives of fellow residents, let us know—we’re here to help bring it to life!
